Acorn Start Child Care: Waitlist policies & procedures
At Acorn Start Daycare, we recognize the importance of securing childcare and strive to accommodate every family on our waitlist. Availability is subject to various factors, including your child's age and our current capacity. Please be aware that wait times can vary and may sometimes be longer than expected.
Waitlist Overview
- Our waitlist is managed in the order in which families join.
- A non-refundable fee of $50 per child is required to be placed on the waitlist.
- Families will receive a confirmation email once the payment is processed.
Factors Affecting Waitlist Position
While the order of the waitlist is important, several factors determine when a spot becomes available:
- The date families receive their waitlist confirmation email.
- Requested start date.
- The child's age when a spot opens up.
- The type of care requested (full-time or part-time).
Spots are offered to the child whose needs best match the available position, such as the correct age group and requested start date.
Priority for Available Spots
When spaces become available, priority will be given in this order:
- Children transitioning to the next age group.
- Children of Acorn Start staff members.
- Siblings of currently enrolled children.
Deferrals & Start Date Adjustments
- If a family defers a spot or requests a new start date, their waitlist position remains based on their original registration date.
- If a spot isn't available for the requested start month, the family’s application will automatically roll over to the next month’s list.
Enrollment Process for Waitlisted Families
When a spot becomes available:
- Families on the waitlist will be contacted by email.
- Families will have 48 hours to confirm acceptance of the spot and choose a start date.
- To secure the spot, families will need to pay a non-refundable $150 administration fee and the first month’s non-refundable fee.

Declining a Spot
- If a family chooses not to accept an available spot, they must inform Acorn Start to remain on the waitlist.
- Declining a spot does not change the family’s position on the list.
Requesting Waitlist Status Updates
Families are welcome to request updates on their position on the waitlist. We will provide an estimated time frame while maintaining the privacy of all children on the list.
Removal from the Waitlist
Families will remain on the waitlist until they either request to be removed or fail to respond to offers or communications regarding their status.
